‘MOSQUE WORSHIPPER’ charged with ATTEMPTED MURDER after Leicester Police hit and run!

Yasin Adam, aged 25 , of Bradbourne Road, off East Park Road, Leicester, was brought before Leicester magistrates this morning having been arrested on Friday.

An imposing figure at over 6ft tall and decked out in an olive green jacket, t-shirt and chinos, the bearded defendant spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. He faces a charge of attempted murder and a second allegation of dangerous driving.

They relate to an incident in Bradbourne Road in the early hours of Friday morning in which an armed police officer, part of a Leicestershire Police team carrying out an operation in the street, was seriously hurt while trying to stop a vehicle.

Adam was remanded into custody and will next appear via video link at Leicester Crown Court on November 12.
Two other men who were arrested in connection with the Bradbourne Road incident have been released from custody pending further investigation.

A Police Spokesperson said:

A Leicester man has been charged after a police officer was seriously injured.

Yasin Adam, 25, of Bradbourne Road, was charged with attempted murder and dangerous driving.

He has been remanded into custody to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Monday (8 October).

The charges relate to an incident in Bradbourne Road, Leicester, when an attempt was made to stop a vehicle.

An officer was struck as the car left the area. He sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital undergoing treatment.

Two other men who were arrested in connection with the incident have been released from custody pending further investigations.

Iqbal Valli, a committee member at the All-Masjid & Madrasah Al-Furqan mosque said the suspects were regular worshippers:

“There was a huge armed police and they blocked off the road as they made arrests. They had guns pointing at the suspects as they led them from the house and their parents are devastated.

No one really knows what’s going on.The family are decent people, they are Muslims, and they worship at our mosque. Everyone here is shocked, it’s a very peaceful area.”

Deputy Chief Constable Rob Nixon said:

This series of incidents have left one of our officers seriously injured and a man hurt in an assault.

The enquiries are in early stages as officers work to piece together the full circumstances.

The injuries caused to our officer are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. We urge anyone who has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to make contact.
