Newly elected Labour MP SHAMED by Jewish Chronicle for antisemitic claims

Reports by the Jewish Chronicle are showing the newly elected Labour MP for Coventry South Zarah telling a told a Jewish student it was “privilege” that allowed them to argue for a peaceful solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine. A series of social media posts that have  since been deleted said that students who “go to Zionist conferences and trips should be ashamed of themselves” because they were advocating “racist ideology”.

Ms Sultana spoke at the launch of Rebecca Long-Bailey’s Labour leadership campaign last Friday also wrote that “those who lobby for Israel” would “in the near future feel the same shame and regret as South African Apartheid supporters.” The 26-year-old made her maiden speech in the House of Commons last week when she thanked “Jewish comrades” before decrying what she called “40 years of Thatcherism”.

Ms Sultana became an MP at last month’s General Election despite the Labour majority falling from 8,000 to just 405 votes. Ms Sultana studied at Birmingham University and this is not the first time her views on Israel have caused a stir. Tweets previously shown in the Jewish chronicle stated she would “celebrate” the deaths of Tony Blair and Benjamin Netanyahu. However, in these further posts, Ms Sultana responded to a Union of Jewish Students member who had argued for the possibility of a peaceful resolution in the Middle East, writing: “It is your privilege that lets you sit on the fence about what’s happening. It is your privilege that lets you speak on stage and call for peace.”

One Jewish student who attended Birmingham University at the same time as Ms Sultana told the Jewish Chronicle: “Her whole raison d’etre was that Jewish students were basically privileged white people who had no right to speak out on racism or injustices around Israel/Palestine.” UNN’s Oliver Down has attempted to make contact with Ms Sultana’s office and has left a voice message. As of 10:30 AM Ms Sultana has failed to respond to the request for further comment on her online posts.
