Since the pandemic started there have been many significant dates. Lockdown restriction implementation days, relaxing of restrictions days, Coronavirus Act amendment days and many more. That only the history writers will now remind us of. As these significant dates during the pandemic, now all blend into one time in our history, that the general public will want to forget.
But there is a ‘Freedom Movement’ that will not forget. Who will remember these dates for what they are and were? But mainly for what they are most certainly not. These ‘Freedom Movement’ protesters are determined to remind our government, politicians and the general public that they will not be fooled by these significant dates that now tend to be swept under the insignificant carpet by the government.
Monday 21/06/21 was declared by Prime Minister, Boris Johnson as our ‘Freedom Day’. Although for some protesters who were arrested in the rain, it was most certainly not. These arrests were made mainly for public order offences. Including, it seemed and yet to be confirmed, for an offence probably as old as when The Metropolitan Police was formed by Robert Peel in 1829 (A fact many Met officers sadly do not know, when asked, I might add), the old age public order offence of knocking a Policeman’s cap off.
The difference now in a modern-day arrest at a protest, is a ridiculous amount of police officers it takes to arrest one alleged offender. Many rushing in with force, batons deployed and used, to clear an area. In one arrest there were over 60 officers surrounding 8 other officers to arrest one protester. These tactics are also to obstruct and stop the media recording these, sometimes overzealous arrests.
The irony is these arrests take an extraordinary amount of time, ultimately blocking the traffic at Parliament Square junction with Bridge Street and Whitehall. What the protesters wanted. In the meantime, the bus driver held at the traffic lights junction, took the opportunity to choose his selection of horses for the day’s racing.
Last Monday there was also a ‘Freedom & Anti Lockdown’ protest in Parliament Square and outside Downing Street. There were double the amount of protesters numbering 1000-1500, a much relaxed and peaceful atmosphere with minimal policing presence. Last week at one point just four protesters stood in the middle of that same junction. The police had diverted the traffic after crossing north over Westminster Bridge, down Victoria Embankment. Only a dozen officers were supervising the main throng of demonstrators for much of that day. It was the hottest day of the year on Monday 14/06/21. Those dozen officers deployed on the junction of Great George Street and Whitehall at Parliament Square made little effort to clear the traffic lanes. Indeed, at one point with other officers, they took shade from the sweltering sun under the tall Whitehall government buildings. Leaving the protesters to police themselves and ultimately sit in the road.
Over the years there has of course been many demonstrations and political gatherings or events in Parliament Square and Whitehall. There are of course contingency plans to direct traffic away from the square. But like last Monday and this week, traffic was being continually left to proceed down Victoria Street into Parliament Square. This traffic could ultimately be easily directed across Lambeth and Vauxhall bridges, rather than Westminster Bridge. Or are the authorities content to cause disruption to the motorist, delivery driver and the Black Cab driver to cause yet more division in our ever increasing politically motivated ‘divide and rule’ society? Indeed, on the majority of the ‘Million+’ person ‘Freedom marches’ there has hardly been a police presence. Ultimately, leaving the marches to Marshall and police the traffic themselves.
At the end of the wet day on our promised ‘Freedom Day’, when only about 40 protesters were left, and the protest was ending and dispersing. A regular ‘Freedom Movement’ musician who did not bring his guitar today, but instead a tin tray and metal spoon. Was arrested outside Downing Street for an offence at a previous demonstration. A charge of assault that the alleged had no recollection of and denied any such offence. Fellow protesters confirmed his only weapon at previous protests has been his guitar and voice used in a non-violent, musical way. He certainly used his voice during his arrest singing ‘Stand up for your rights’ and other freedom songs. Many protesters have been arrested at demonstrations for alleged offences at previous protests. It is suspected within the movement that this is a ploy by the police to arrest protesters to compile their details and collect their DNA evidence when arrested.
On Monday the rains came with only a hardcore element of about 500 from the ‘Great Awakening’ & ‘Freedom Movement’. Many driving from all corners of our ‘Green and Pleasant land’ including Scotland and Cornwall. People determined not to let the government, Mainstream Media and ultimately the general public forget that Monday 21st June 2021 was ultimately declared as our ‘Freedom Day’. Now another insignificant date in real history terms that will eventually be forgotten by the masses, who believed another of the Prime Minister’s promises and booked holidays, weddings, gig tickets and family reunions. Who believed the government and mainstream media propaganda that their business Covid restrictions would be relaxed. That the lifting of Covid restrictions would give hope that their businesses may survive, serving the masses who arranged promised happier and momentous days in their lives.
Then general consensus among the demonstrators last Monday and this week, that there was never going to be a day of ‘Liberation’. That they knew the Covid restrictions would not be lifted and it will not be the first ‘Fake Freedom Day’ and it won’t be the last. These people may not be in large numbers today, but were determined to mark this day. They will be back this Saturday 26th June in Central London to peacefully march for their freedoms. Although, in much larger numbers, as a million are expected. Too many to police, too many to arrest.
