Nigel Farage has blasted Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party and has suggested that he “does not represent” previous labour heartlands any longer. Prominent Brexiter and leader of the Brexit party Nigel Farage has used his column in the Daily Telegraph to announce that the party will announce its first 150 Parliamentary candidates this week, amid rumours ramping up around an imminent general election. Following the birth of the Brexit party in March they surged in European parliamentary elections. Despite the news that the new PM Boris Johnson is seriously contemplating no deal which could see a lot of Brexiter voters return to the Tories, the Brexit Party leader has appeared undeterred from his positive mood.

Whilst being defiant in tone Mr Farage announced that his party will be homing in on previous Labour heartlands in the north of England, the Midlands and in Wales as a result of their unclear Brexit policy. Mr Farage stated that “While Jeremy Corbyn continues to equivocate in interviews, these voters know that the Labour Party is now a Remain campaign organisation. Crucially, most of the seats in these areas are ones the Conservative Party could never win. The Brexit Party is now the main challenger, as shown in the European elections.”
Despite this, backed by a significant bounce in support since being installed as Prime Minister last week, Boris Johnson has warned that “a vote for any other party other than the Conservatives pushes the Liberal Democrats one step closer to cancelling the referendum result”. These comments were made on a trip to Wales whilst discussing this week’s upcoming by-election in Brecon and Radnorshire where a defeat for the Tories would see their technical Commons majority reduced to one.

Also speaking on Tuesday, Mr Johnson has ordered the EU to compromise and remove the Irish backstop if it wants to secure a deal with the UK. He stated that “They know that three times the House of Commons has thrown out that backstop, there’s no way that we can get it through, we have to have that backstop out of the deal, we cannot go on with the withdrawal agreement as it currently is. If they understand that then I think we are going to be at the races.” These comments are likely to raise alarm sounds at the Brexit Party HQ who have been constant advocates of no deal as well as being against Mrs May’s withdrawal agreement.
