Paedophile caught by police driving to meet ‘13-year-old child’ he’d groomed for sex

A paedophile caught by police driving in an Audi TT to meet a ’13-year-old’ girl that he had groomed online for sex has been jailed after having been bailed and stung by undercover cops yet again.

James Davidson, aged 53 from Stockport, was stopped by officers near Bolton Wanderers’ stadium in Horwich, the Manchester Evening News previously reported.

The now convicted and jailed whose mug shot has now been released, gave police the ludicrous excuse: “This is ridiculous. I don’t know what all this is about.

“I just pulled in there because I didn’t feel well.”

It has now been revealed that Davidson did in fact arrange to meet a ’13-year-old girl’ after ‘grooming’ her online. The child was an undercover police officer working to target online grooming of the underaged.

After being arrested and released under investigation, Davidson did not stop his crimes, he continued sending messages to another ’13-year-old girl’ little did he know, this was another undercover officer and Davidson had just sealed his own fate.

During some of Davidson’s ‘filthy’ conversations with one ‘girl’, he said that ‘age doesn’t matter’ despite the law clearly stating otherwise.

Jailing him for two years, Judge Mark Savill told Davidson, who was previously cautioned for exposing himself to a child via a chat room webcam: “You tried to fob them off with a quite ludicrous excuse.

“You had had a shot across your bows. That didn’t deter you.”

Minshull Street Crown Court heard that Davidson has first started messaging the ‘girl’ in June of 2018, she informed him that she was 13, but the discussion quickly turned sexual, prosecutor Gavin Howie said.

Mr Howie said the messages included ‘classic grooming gambits’ with references to sex and to meeting up.

After various conversations, he asked her: “Are you really willing to meet me and have sex?”

“I think so, yeah,” the ‘girl’ replied.

They agreed to meet near the Tesco store and the University of Bolton stadium in July 2018, police stationed nearby pulled him over after they saw him approach in an Audi TT.

Davidson had his mobile phone seized and he was handcuffed while still sat in the car, during an interview, he answered ‘no comment’ to questions and refused to reveal the PIN number for his iPhone.

He was released under investigation before coming to the attention of police again a year later, in July.

He had been sending messages to someone he believed to be a 13-year-old girl, after Davidson began to make references to sex and suggested they could meet up. Police traced his IP address and learned it was Davidson.

Defending, Paul Becker said that Davidson has been in prison on remand for six months, and that it has been a ‘salutary experience’.

He appealed for the judge to consider allowing Davidson to be released, so he could undertake programs to rehabilitate himself.

Sentencing, Judge Savill told Davidson: “You are someone who has had, and continues to have an interest in young girls, of a sexual nature.”

The judge also said a pre-sentence report indicated Davidson has ‘no real insight or willingness to discuss your interest’, he said he was not satisfied that there was a realistic prospect of rehabilitation for Davidson and jailed him.

Davidson, of Mendip Close, Stockport, pleaded guilty to four offences, they included two counts of attempting to sexually communicate with a child; one count of attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act; and one count of attempting to meet following sexual grooming.

He was sentenced to two a period of two years’ incarceration and also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.
