Piers Morgan & Gary Lineker in social media spat as they trade blows over Brexit proroguing

Remain voting Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has launched into a furious attack of Gary Lineker, reminding him he had “howled for three years” that the UK should ignore the “result of a democratic vote” and hold a second Brexit referendum. Piers Morgan now believes that the vote from 2016 must be honoured in order to protect democracy and he took great offence at Lineker’s recent Twitter remarks where he said:

“Great to get our sovereignty back. The government’s argument that they’re doing this for democracy is remarkably undemocratic.”

Piers Morgan immediately launched back: “Says the man who has howled for 3yrs that we should ignore the result of a democratic vote…”

Top BBC earner on £1.75 million Lineker then doubled down on his claims saying that Brexiteers had been duped and conned into voting for it:

He tweeted: “Never have i said that we should ignore the result. That indeed would be undemocratic.

“We could though look at the crooked, lying nature of how it was sold to us back then by the elite now dictating (literally) and decide as a democratic country if that’s still what we want.”

To which, Piers responded: “Mate, it doesn’t get more elite than you…as BBC licence fee payers know to our cost.”

Lineker responded: “Mate, it doesn’t get much more elite than ostentatiously showing off your wealth (you constantly tell me you earn way more than me) with a deluge of pictures by marauding, around the Côte d’Azur on a yacht.”

Morgan and Lineker have repeatedly clashed on Twitter over Brexit and Lineker joins a slew of celebrities who are melting down over the perfectly legal decision to prorogue Parliament and we will be analysing these later today in our Premium Content section.
