Prime Minister Johnson is ‘focusing on recovery’ with no fixed date of when he’ll return to work

Downing Street has issued a statement saying the Prime Minister is focusing on his health after being discharged from hospital.

Mr Johnson is Boris Johnson is currently fully recovering at his official country residence Chequers, in Buckinghamshire, after spending several days in St Thomas’ Hospital and some more days in the intensive care unit at the London hospital after contracting coronavirus.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “The Prime Minister is focusing on his recovery and he is not currently carrying out Government work.

“Having been discharged from hospital he is continuing his recovery at Chequers.

“And, on the advice of his medical team, the Prime Minister is not immediately returning to work.”

The PM’s spokesman levelled with the nation about just how bad Mr Johnson’s case had gotten during his hospital stay, they added: “As we set out, his condition did worsen over the course of last Monday afternoon and he had to be moved to the intensive care unit.

“Now, clearly, if a person is moved to intensive care, that means that they are requiring a significant level of specialist treatment.

“So, I think it was clear from the moment the Prime Minister was moved to intensive care that his condition had worsened.’

When the PM’s spokesman was questioned on why Mr Johnson was at Chequers and not his primary residence in Downing Street, Mr Johnson’s spokesman said it is considered to be a “suitable place” for the PM to continue his recovery.

Mr Johnson was also confirmed to have been tested for COVID-19 on leaving the hospital with the results coming back as negative.
