Police arrest man on suspicion of murder after Winson Green stabbing

West Midlands Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder in the early hours of this morning after a man was stabbed to death in Winson Green on Friday.

The suspect will be questioned over the death of the 29-year-old victim, who was stabbed a number of times in the chest and back at around 2.30pm in Summerfield Park, Dudley Road.

Police launched a murder investigation after the man who was repeatedly stabbed on Friday died in hospital.

He was taken to hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead just after midnight on Saturday.

A post-mortem will take place today, and the victim’s family are being supported by specially trained officers.

Det Insp Laura Harrison, leading the investigation, said: “Our investigation is moving really quickly, but I still need to hear from anyone in the area at the time who saw or heard anything and who’s not yet spoken to us.

“We also really need to speak to anyone with CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage that might help us.”

In a pervious appeal to the public, Det Insp Laura Harrison, leading the investigation, said: “This was appalling violence which has ended in a man’s murder, and we’ve been working non-stop since yesterday to establish exactly what happened, and who was responsible.

“I really need to hear from anyone in the area at the time who saw or heard anything and who’s not yet spoken to us.

“We also really need to speak to anyone with CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage that might help us.”
