President Trump shares message calling for Dr. Fauci to be FIRED

President Trump retweeted a call to fire Dr. Anthony S. Fauci amid growing criticism of Fauci’s performance and his wish for an extended lockdown.

The call from a former Republican congressional candidate, using the hashtag “FireFauci,” followed an interview with National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases chief Fauci on CNN’s “State of the Union, in which he said a stronger early response by the administration to the outbreak “could have saved lives,” but also characterized the decision to implement social distancing guidelines as “complicated.”

Fauci spoke to CNN saying: “Obviously, it would have been nice if we had a better head start, but I don’t think you could say that we are where we are right now because of one factor. It’s very complicated.”

Trump has grown increasingly disenchanted with Fauci and this showed when he stepped in to stop him from answering a question about the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine. Fuaci has poured scorn on this and called for a longterm solution to vaccinations. Fauci has also been skeptical of Trump’s rush to set a date for lightening up on mitigation efforts to get the economy moving as the 2020 election approaches.

Fauci is a career government scientist with many on the US Conservative right accusing him of being a ‘deep state’ figure. He was first appointed to his position in 1984, Fauci has led the agency, which is part of the National Institutes of Health, under six presidents, starting with Ronald Reagan. George W. Bush said he has “absolute confidence” in Fauci and the other experts leading the way on the coronavirus outbreak. Bush awarded him the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Medal of Freedom.

Fauci has also served on numerous steering boards of the Bill & Melinda Gates health foundation.
