The Queen’s second son Prince Andrew has reportedly hired Britain’s “most formidable” extradition lawyer. This is being seen as a desperate attempt to protect him against an FBI inquiry into his relationship with the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The Duke of York stated in his interview with the BBC that he would cooperate in an FBI investigation. Despite this, in January US authorities criticised the Prince for repeatedly failing to cooperate with the ongoing investigation into Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking ring.
The Daily Telegraph today is reporting that Prince Andrew is still worried about being forced to talk and has taken the step of hiring an “eminent team of lawyers” to “fend off” the FBI. Andrew’s legal team is now led by Clare Montgomery who has represented world leaders, including former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet. Ms Montgomery reportedly charges $1,300-an-hour and is described in the Telegraph as being “the most formidable member of the bar,”
In addition to this Andrew has also hired Gary Bloxsome who is a criminal defence solicitor who works international cases and is considered a serious hitter. The decision to assemble this team shows suggests that Andrew is gearing up for a legal fight and one he does not want. just how “hugely seriously” the duke is taking the threat of legal moves to make him talk, says the Telegraph, which believes it is the first time the royal family has needed to use such a powerful team of criminal lawyers.
Prince Andrew has always denied knowing about Epstein’s behaviour. He also denies knowing Virginia Roberts Giuffre this is despite her claiming that she was made to have sex with the prince three times, the first being when she was just 17.
