Prince Charles launches ‘Terra Carta’ to put Green Issues at heart of Covid Recovery

The Prince of Wales has launched a campaign that is calling on businesses and its leaders to invest in green issues and sustainability. The campaign was launched alongside a £7.3billion recovery plan fund to correct what he described as a string of ‘broken promises’ over the environment.

Prince Charles decided to mark 50 years since he began campaigning on green issues by unveiling his ‘Terra Carta’, which he wants to bring together the biggest firms in the world to put sustainability at the heart of post pandemic issues. Charles has urged business leaders to ‘bring prosperity into harmony with nature, people and planet’. The current firms signed up include but is not limited to Bank of America, AstraZeneca, Schroders, HSBC, Heathrow Airport, Coutts and BP.

He went on to say: ‘I am making an urgent appeal to leaders, from all sectors and from around the world, to give their support to this Terra Carta, to bring prosperity into harmony with nature, people and planet over the coming decade’. UNN’s Oliver Down understands that the virtual event Charles spoke at was also attended by the French president, Emmanuel Macron and the Chinese vice premier, Han Zheng as well as Boris Johnson.

The UK has committed to spending at least £3 billion of its international funding for climate action on efforts to protect nature over the next five years, Boris Johnson has said. The UK Government is hoping that announcements on nature and clean energy will be looked on positively worldwide prior to the UN Cop26 talks in Glasgow in November this year.
