Reports Prime Minister could move to “Conservative safe seat” to ensure re-election

Reports are emerging that are stating that the Prime Minister is set to move to a “safe Conservative seat” such as Beaconsfield from his current Uxbridge seat. The sitting MP for Beaconsfield is the remain backing ex-Tory Dominic Grieve. This speculation has been fuelled by the Brexit Party Chairman Richard Tice who thinks standing in a place such as Beaconsfield would “make a lot of logic”. 

These comments were made by Mr Tice on talk Radio. Mr Tice stated when asked as to Mr Johnson’s chances in Uxbridge: “He’s massively vulnerable, yes he is. He’s not going to stand there as we understand. There are obviously many rumours of him circulating but we understand he’s going to move to a safe Conservative seat. Somewhere like, for example, Beaconsfield, who knows. But that’s what we’d expect. And actually, if you think about it, Beaconsfield taking on arch-Remainer Dominic Grieve, close to Chequers, all make a lot of logic really doesn’t it?” 

Mr Tice also used the appearance to confirm he will be standing as an MP in the upcoming election. Reports had emerged earlier this week that Mr Tice was set up to sit in Uxbridge. However, Mr Tice refused to be drawn into an answer: “But we’re not confirming yet exactly where, there are all sorts of rumours swirling around, the truth is most of the rumours over the last couple of days have been completely wrong, given what we announced this morning. But we’re not yet confirming where I’m going to stand so I can’t help on that this afternoon.”

Mr Grieve will run in this election as an independent MP after having the Conservative whip removed. Mr Grieve has been the MP for Beaconsfield since 1997. Mr Grieve is pulling no punches in his comments on Prime Minister Johnson, he told Sky News “I think the Prime Minister’s leadership as exhibited over the last two months has been horrific. A prorogation, he’s a scandal. It says something very profound and worrying about this Prime Minister’s standards. So that does trouble me, and I think they should think long and hard about the future of the country not just for themselves but for our children and grandchildren in some cases.”

Given the fact a leave alliance looks to be dead in the water, there is set to be a lot of heavyweight matchups in this upcoming general election. It seems likely that the Brexit party are going to be fielding candidates in all constituencies in England, Scotland and Wales and the electorate are seemingly going to get clear and distinct choices when they head to the polls on the 12th of December.
