Comedian Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globes overnight in Los Angeles. This was the 5th time he had secured this gig and it is likely to be the last. He spent his time on stage pulling no punches with jokes regarding the ‘wokeness’ that has made Hollywood more insufferable than ever. Ricky Gervais opened up with a statement warning winners on making political statements. Mr Gervais said “You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. If you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent, thank your god, and fxck off”.
Gervais’s monologue at the awards lasted for just shy of 8 minutes and completely took apart the celebrity audience listing Hollywood’s seemingly infinite list of scandals, from Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein. Gervais said of Epstein “I know he’s your friend, but I don’t care”. These comments were followed by a gag that cited Hollywood’s wokeness hypocrisy and asked why it is curiously absent when it comes to corporate practices from the likes of major producers like Disney, Amazon and Apple which run sweatshops in China. Gervais stated that he felt that if ISIS were to begin making films the celebrities in the audience would be on the phone to their agents. Comedy at its best!

The spiked online magazine states “for years, sanctimonious celebrities have looked down on the public, lecturing us about how to live and how to vote, while at the same time their industry has been mired in scandal.” Not many will be expecting Ricky Gervais to be invited back to the golden globes for a 6th time. Hollywood celebrities will certainly be hoping not.
