It has emerged that a member of a grooming gang in Rochdale, who got a girl pregnant and trafficked a 15-year-old said, has said that ‘we have not committed that big a crime’. In addition to this, he has said it would breach of his human rights if he was deported back to Pakistan.
Adil Khan, who is 51, and Qari Abdul Rauf, who is 52, have both been informed that they are to be deported from the UK after they were part of a notorious gang convicted of a series of serious sex offences against young girls.
However, both are appealing against the deportation order served last July. Khan has told an immigration tribunal hearing: ‘We have not committed that big a crime’. Khan has also claimed that he has renounced his Pakistani citizenship. Therefore, any deportation would make him ‘stateless’.
Khan and Rauf were among nine Asian men convicted of sex offences against vulnerable girls in 2012. The gang’s crimes began in 2008 when girls as young as 12 were plied with alcohol and drugs and gang-raped in rooms above takeaway shops. Police have said that as many as 47 girls were groomed.
One of the victims, known as Girl A, is now 28 and has said: ‘We were told they would be kicked out of the country. Knowing that had been done would have been a huge help for all of us in trying to rebuild our lives. But instead we’re still haunted by the paedophiles who raped and trafficked us. Every day we run the risk of bumping into them.’.
