Sajid Javid BACKS Theresa May as he ATTACKS Boris Johnson!

Sajid Javid has challenged Boris Johnson to “properly” come up with different ideas to the Chequers plan or get behind Mrs May.

The controversial Home Secretary said: “The thing that is helpful is for us all to support the Prime Minister with her plan and make sure it is getting a fair hearing at the EU.

For those who think there is a different way then they need to properly set out what alternatives there might be.

But right now this is the plan that has been put forward by the UK Government and it is still being considered by all the different bits that make up the EU and let’s see what they say.

That’s the plan and that is the one that everyone should be uniting behind.”

This is after Boris Johnson has today launched a fierce attack on Theresa May’s Brexit plans, saying they would leave the UK with “diddly squat” after the negotiations and hand the EU “victory”. Writing in the Daily Telegraph today he said it “means disaster” for Britain.

This comes as the EU’s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, says he is “strongly” opposed to parts of the plan and it may not be acceptable to EU member states. The UK government insisted its Brexit strategy was “precise and pragmatic”.

According to the BBC:

The so-called Chequers deal was agreed by cabinet at the prime minister’s country residence as the UK’s preferred way forward in negotiations with Brussels.

Mrs May’s plan would see the UK agreeing a “common rulebook” with the EU for trading in goods, in an attempt to maintain friction-less trade at the border.

It also officially ends the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice in the UK, but the ECJ would continue to be “the interpreter of EU rules” that the UK has agreed to stick to.

Critics say the deal will leave the UK tied to EU rules and prevent Britain from striking its own trade deals in years to come.

The negotiations between the UK and EU have an informal deadline tied to a summit in October – although figures on both sides have said it could slip back to November.

The UK is due to leave the EU on 29 March.

In his first intervention since quitting the government, Mr Johnson compared negotiations between Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab and Mr Barnier to a wrestling match.

He wrote: “The whole thing is about as pre-ordained as a bout between Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy; and in this case, I am afraid, the inevitable outcome is a victory for the EU, with the UK lying flat on the canvas and 12 stars circling symbolically over our semi-conscious head.”

Mr Johnson said negotiations based on the Chequers plan had so far seen the EU take “every important trick”, adding: “The UK has agreed to hand over £40bn of taxpayers’ money for two-thirds of diddly squat.”

He said by using the strategy – defended by Mrs May in the Sunday Telegraph over the weekend – the UK had “gone into battle with the white flag fluttering over our leading tank”.

If it continued on the same path, Mr Johnson added, the government would “throw away most of the advantages of Brexit”.

Mr Johnson also accused some members of the government of using the issue of the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland to “stop a proper Brexit”, but added: “They have been rumbled.”

The “scandal” around the border problem was “not that we have failed, but that we have not even tried”, he added.

Downing street responded with a withering attack on Mr Johnson who they fear is set to launch a leadership challenge with the PM’s spokesperson saying: “The Chequers proposals are the only credible and negotiable plan which has been put forward and which will deliver on the will of the British people.”

There’s no new ideas in this article to respond to. What we need at this time is serious leadership with a serious plan. That’s exactly what the country has with this prime minister and this Brexit plan.”

This comes as UK Unity has organised a protest in London outside the British parliament. The event is set to take place on the 5 September at 11:00–14:00 meeting at the Winston Churchill statue then making their way to Number 10 to symbolically block the gates!

The event on Facebook has seen growing interest of thousands, the description of the event is as follows:

 “The people have had enough and UK unity says we cannot sit back and allow this Brexit betrayal so we must take ACTION! This will be the first Prime Ministers Questions back after the summer recess. Doing it at this time means we should also get media coverage like our previous rallies.

We need as many people on the streets to tell May we will not accept her soft Brexit!

We will symbolically block the gates of Number 10 before she leaves to go to PMQ’s then we will make our way to Parliament to protest while all the traitor MP’s are listening! Please share this event far and wide. UK unity will provide banners and placards and people are also encouraged to bring their own as well as flags.

Unity currently has over 20,000 signed up supporters and a membership base that is always seeking to expand. The founder of UK Unity David Clews has shown his discontent with Theresa May and the British cabinet over the way they have been handling the Brexit negotiations among other things.

UK Unity was formed nine months ago and  has had various action days all around the country, however, this protest is the first of its kind using fruitful language like they will ‘symbolically block the gates of Number 10′ .

It promises to be a colourful and noisy display with t-shirts, banners, boards and apparently 300 mini union flags ordered!
