The exiled Shamima Begum’s husband has told his jihadi bride to ‘do whatever you can to build a future for us’ as she battles to return to the UK. Yago Riedijk who is a Dutch ISIS fighter, married Begum when she was 15 after she left London to join the terrorist ISIS, has told her to ‘stay strong’ ahead of a Supreme Court hearing regarding her British citizenship.
In a video interview Riedijk states, that he wants to live with Begum and ‘start a family again’ nearly two years after her third child died in a refugee camp in Syria. He also urged Begum to: ‘Stay strong, even though it’s very difficult all the things we’ve been through’. He also went on to say: ‘I’d tell her to make use of your time, do whatever you can and learn whatever you can in order to build a future for yourself…for us. In terms of taking care of future children, in terms of being a future housewife’.
Riedijk sows little remorse for going off to join ISIS as he said he ‘would never have gotten to know my wife’ if he had not joined the terrorist group. He also said, when questioned on the morals of marrying a 15-year-old he said it was ‘her own choice’. He went on to say: ‘To be honest, when my friend came and said there was a girl who was interested in marriage, I wasn’t that interested because of her age, but I accepted the offer anyway’.
