The Royal National Lifeboat Institution came under fire over the weekend for spending millions of pounds on projects in foreign countries while at the same time cutting more than one-hundred jobs in the United Kingdom.
Donations taken in by the RNLI have been spent on swimsuits known as burkinis for devout Muslim women in Tanzania and on funding creches in Bangladesh which the RNLI claims help to prevent drownings overseas.
The charity’s £189,000-a-year chief executive Mark Dowie warned the organisation was ‘facing major challenges,’ the RNLI made loss of £6.3million last year as demand for their service at record levels, despite this the charity still intends to increase its annual spend on foreign projects at the same time as announcing 135 job cuts in the United Kingdom.
The RNLI has been extremely busy with demand rising as their services are already hitting record levels, with its lifeboats launched 8,964 times in the UK and Ireland last year.
Many initially said that they were outraged by this decision but it now appears that a huge amount of FBPE/liberal users on Twitter are saying they are now setting up donations en masse and criticising those who have cancelled. They are also attacking The Daily Mail for breaking this story.
