Sunak: We will rewire the entire global financial system to achieve net zero

Speaking at COP26 Rishi Sunak Sunak has promoted the investment of private finance – and says the Glasgow summit has brought together institutions with assets worth over $130tn. He says this is a “historic wall of capital for the net zero transition around the world”.

He calls for action to invest this in a low carbon future and for confidence and clarity in the climate impact of the investments.

He says the entire global finance system will be “rewired” for net zero.

He said: “Better and more consistent climate data; sovereign green bonds; mandatory sustainability disclosures; proper climate risk surveillance; and proper global reporting standards.”

Sunak claims the UK is leading the world on these measures – and will become the “first-ever net zero aligned global financial centre”.
