The Covid Cat is out of the bag!

Roger Watson

Published last week, the HART (Health Advisory & Recovery Team) report COVID-19 RESPONSE dissects the UK government management of the continuing coronavirus pandemic and lays out the entrails for all to see. HART is an authoritative group, not a ‘nutter’ in sight, no swivel-eyed anti-vaxxers or COVID deniers. These are leaders in their field such as Professor David Livermore, a medical microbiologist at the University of East Anglia and spokesperson Dr John Lee, formerly a clinical professor and pathologist at the Hull York Medical School, and many more. The report covers 15 aspects of the response to the pandemic, including masks and vaccine passports, and is supported by nearly 300 hypertexted references.

Of considerable concern are some of the facts contained in the report. For example, child abuse referrals to the NSPCC have increased by 43% during the lockdown, the vaccine approval is only temporary, and trials are still ongoing. The COVID-19 vaccines are not licensed for use with children—yet we are proposing that it is used with them—and there was an excess of 21,000 deaths during the first lockdown of people who did not die of the coronavirus.

The report is concise and crystal clear in its presentation and some of its bold statements make salutary reading. For example: ‘Closing international borders to keep out ‘foreign mutants’ of an already endemic virus is neither useful nor possible’; ‘No respiratory virus has ever been eliminated…’; ‘…lockdowns cause immeasurable harm whilst not appearing to have a positive effect on reducing mortality’ and, with respect to the psychological manipulation used to spread ‘fear rhetoric’, ‘…we have grave concerns that it may cause enormous long-term psychological harm.’

One of the great myths of the pandemic, that of asymptomatic spread, is demolished by Dr John Lee. The mantra of asymptomatic spread—essentially a biological oxymoron—was used by the Health Secretary Matt Hancock to encourage people to behave as if they had the virus even if, patently obviously, they had not. According to Dr Lee ‘Robust evidence of asymptomatic spread is lacking and runs counter to all previous understanding of how respiratory viruses work.’

The report is aimed at our politicians. Under the statement ‘The data is in: lockdowns serve no useful purpose and cause catastrophic societal and economic harms. They must never be repeated in this country’, the HART group urge MPs to vote against in the upcoming vote in Parliament to renew the Coronavirus Act. They also urge a full public enquiry. Boris Johnson promised a public enquiry in July last year and pressure is mounting on him to announce one soon. Undoubtedly, there will be a public enquiry in due course, but the next issue will be who chairs it and who is permitted to give evidence. My dream ticket would be an enquiry chaired by Lord Jonathan Sumption at which the HART group, Peter Hitchens and the Lockdown Sceptics were permitted to provide evidence. Somehow, I doubt this will happen.
