On the 26th June, September 1947, in San Francisco, the United Nations were formed, with 51 original members states pledging to protect the world population Human Rights. This, many history books declare was the beginning of a post war New World Order. The UN General Assembly finally signing ‘The Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ on 10th December, 1948. It would be interesting to know, how many prominent politicians of power around the world, since 1948, have actually read that declaration of Human Rights? The second pledge being ‘Freedom from discrimination’. The seventh declaration being all are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination of the law.
This week France, Greece and England have led the way in the beginning of mandatory vaccinations for Health workers. The evening before the Bastille celebrations President Macron ordered all Health workers to get vaccinated by September and a Health pass will be needed to visit restaurants, Cinemas, theatres, shopping malls and general social activities by August 1st for the general population. This led to 900,000 rushing to book vaccine shots, increasing pressure upon the population to have compulsory vaccinations.
While President Macron and 4,500 military troops paraded down the Champs Élysées with a flyover of 73 aircraft on the traditional 14th July celebrations the President’s announcement instigated protests across France. Huge numbers mobilised in various cities and towns not reported by the mainstream media against the mandatory vaccinations that would have made the original 1789 French Revolutionaries proud. Tear gas was dispersed on the streets of Paris to disperse the protesters.
Greece also announced mandatory vaccinations for Health workers, and that the vaccination will now be available for teenagers. Also, as in France the unvaccinated were barred from indoor public spaces. This caused outrage with tens of thousands protesting in Athens and Thessaloniki but no violence was reported. Spain is expected soon to also announce obligatory vaccinations, with other European countries soon to follow.
On Tuesday in the House of Commons 319 MPs voted for mandatory vaccinations of care home workers. This would require all Care Quality Commission-registered care homes to require everyone entering the home to have been vaccinated.
Shadow Health Minister, Rosena Allin-Khan said “Vaccine hesitancy is entirely different from being an Anti Vaxxer” also pointing out that “Forcing carers to choose between losing their job and taking a vaccine that they are afraid of is inhumane”.
Tory backbenchers were especially unhappy that a promised document was not available in the House of Commons Library. Mark Harper, Conservative MP for Forest of Dean noted that in the government document presented to the House that a Full Impact Assessment has been prepared. This Assessment should be shared with the House as MPs were voting on the Bill on that day of the vote and it was misleading and an abuse of the house.
Helen Whately, Health and Social Care Minister apologised that this Impact Assessment was not presented and unconvincingly informed the members it was “still being worked on”.
Sir Christopher Chope, (Con-Christchurch) said it was “the most depressing performance from a Minister that I have listened to in this House. She showed a cavalier disregard for the conventions and courtesies of this House and as she has admitted to, she completely breached the rules under the Government’s better regulation framework.” Then adding “the Minister’s response is best described as dumb insolence, and that is just not good enough.”
The majority of the objections of the Minister’s and governments conduct were made by Conservative MPs. Now becoming a regular theme in regards to controversial laws like the Coronavirus Act, Policing Bill and now mandatory vaccinations. In how the government holds the House in contempt and abusing Central governments powers.
After the vote, Sir Charles Walker (Con) raised a point of order that the Speakers Office ascertain if the government had misled the House. That a Parliamentary Paper was submitted and that a Full Impact Statement had been prepared and would be submitted for the debate.
This criticism of government behaviour of abuse and disregard of Parliamentary procedures by MPs now seems now to be an ever-increasing theme in various proposed legislations presented to the House.
The House of Lords Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee have recommended
a deferment of the law. Although, the law won’t come into effect for at least 16 weeks in November at the earliest. The Scottish and Labour led Welsh governments have for now rejected mandatory vaccinations.
Many MPs said vaccines were “totally safe and effective”, raising doubt that these MPs have studied the government’s own statistics on The Yellow Card Scheme. With such high numbers injured and bad reactions (over 1 million) from the experimental vaccines, let alone the harrowingly 1,441 deaths in the UK alone, surely constituents have written to their MPs outlining their own personal or family case studies? Are these MPs in total denial or oblivious of the concerns and apprehensions within the medical community? Although a number of MPs did go on to add that coercion to have obligatory vaccinations is wrong.
Many of these Care Home workers are of course working class, poorly paid and over worked. Indeed, many are immigrants in this country and not just from the EU. Always the last forgotten demographics when it comes to rights and justice.
Like the Julian Assange media freedom issue the people are only truly free when Julian is free. Until this oppressive new proposed law is reversed or thrown out, which looks highly unlikely, the people are only truly free from mandatory vaccinations when the Care Home health workers are free from mandatory vaccinations. The future and the beginning of the loss of everyone’s human rights seems almost inevitable. People refusing the vaccination will most certainly be penalised and their freedoms will be greatly restricted.
MPs have either forgotten about the momentous times in San Francisco and the later Declaration of Human Rights, or were not taught or learnt them independently, or selfishly not consider these health workers to choose for themselves and ‘my body, my choice’.
Care home workers like the NHS staff, were on the frontline during the pandemic, Working endless hours and risking illness to themselves and their families, looking after the generation who fought risking their lives in a traumatic time during World War Two, and losing their friends and comrades. Fighting for future generations freedoms, liberties and human rights. True Libertarians would find the irony repellent.
It may be that those history books regarding the war and formation of the UN, and ultimately the Declarations are not being read in The House of Commons library and may even be gathering dust? Hopefully, one of the librarians will at least wipe down a copy of The Human Rights Declaration and leave it a more prominent position for more MPs to notice.
