The year of lockdown and the rhymes of history – ignore them at your own risk

The adage – ‘history doesn’t repeat but it does rhyme’ is well worn, in fact it is so threadbare you can see through it. The thing about well worn adages is that there is usually a reason they are well worn – they are true.

Right now we are being sold a dangerous myth by government – the myth is that normality is going to return and all we have to do is ‘just keep going’, ‘get the vaccine’ and ‘follow the guidelines’.

No.

This is quite simply a lie. The truth is that the world as we knew it one year ago is gone – we are just being propagandised that it is still there. Just as Eastenders is promoting the myth that London exists in the same social context that operated in 1978 the current government rhetoric spins the idea that your life will soon return to what it was a year ago. The truth is that this is an elaborate facade with nothing behind it, like the Queen Vic. 

What is fact is that film and TV drama have always been a very powerful way of getting ideas across in a salient form for public consumption. This is why we have things like Eastenders, they are in fact a method of social control because they are so easily able to inject ideas into the public consciousness because people identify with the characters and storylines and therefore ingest whatever skewed attitudes the writers choose to weave into the plot. 

I am not going to discuss the evils of the BBC output as it has all already been said, what I want to emphasise is that film has brought us insights that can help us understand what is going on and how government is selling us a lie. I am going to suggest you watch some classic films and I will explain what they mean for you, here and now.

Dr Zhivago (1965) is essentially a love story of a man drawn between two women but the social backdrop is the Russian revolution. When Dr Zhivago goes to be a medic in the 1st world war he returns to find his opulent house is now home to 5 families and is the property of the state, his wealth has been redistributed and opposition to this means imprisonment or death. 

Gone With the Wind (1939) is another love story but set against the American civil war – where the way of life in the confederate states was erased after their defeat.

Downfall (2004) I need not remind you is a historically accurate account of Hitler’s last days in the bunker in 1945.

There is one overarching theme that runs through all these films and that is that political systems, however powerful or successful they are and however long they have existed for can fail or be destroyed and swept aside. As a result people in large numbers die, have their wealth confiscated or both. 

There is one more film that I think is important and that is ‘The big short’ (2015) which explains how the 2008 financial crash happened in a fun and accessible way whilst being historically accurate, through the perspective of people directly involved in the events.

The fact is that our financial system broke in 2008, it broke as fundamentally as the Third Reich broke in 1945 and died like the confederacy or Tsarist Russia. The trick has been that the media, via its lullabies, falsehoods and spin has been able to convince people that everything is fine. Things are not fine, the velocity of fiat money creation has increased to a point where even advocates of Keynesian expansion of the money supply are worried. 

I can’t stress this enough, the fiat money system is dead. To introduce another theme from Hollywood consider the plot of ‘Falling Down’(1993).  Douglas’s character has been fired from his job but instead of admitting this to his wife and coping with the situation he simply continues to dress and leave the house each morning with the packed lunch his wife has prepared and simply sits in his car until it is time to come home again. Of course eventually the stress and pressure of maintaining this pretence have huge negative consequences. 

We have been in this situation since 2008. Daddy has been fired but he won’t admit it, instead he’s been hiding the true scale of the decay and failure of the system he ran. 

Klaus Schwab’s ‘great reset’ is nothing to do with climate change, social justice, the third world or covid 19, although he will tell you that this is why it is necessary. The ‘reset’ is simply a method to manage people’s consumption and expectations down to the level of actual productivity instead of the debt fuelled consumption splurge that the west has been on for the last 50 years since the abolition of the gold standard. 

The Covid crisis was an ideal cover for this agenda to be advanced, by injecting people with the idea of a deadly pandemic they made them susceptible to accepting changes to their lives that before would have been unthinkable and this process has only just begun. 

The level of coercive control and the abolition of freedoms has been just as brutal as anything seen in revolutionary Russia, it has just had a much better public relations front attached. Covid has driven yet another divide into an already Balkanised society and frightened propagandised people who really can’t allow themselves to believe how bad things are will do anything to preserve the life they were told they could have back – as long as you follow the guidelines.

It is time to stare down the barrel of the gun the government has pointing in your face. The monetary and fiscal world you grew up in is gone and it’s not coming back. You will have to live in the burnt out wreckage of this system and it will be hard going but you can be part of the resistance or you can line up and get a barcode scanned onto your forehead, the choice is as always – yours.

Like John Connor says in Terminator Salvation – ‘if you’re reading this – then you are the resistance’.
