The Government yesterday evening announced that the Withdrawal Agreement Bill will return to the Commons on the week beginning 3rd June with or without an agreed deal with Labour.
Downing Street said she would bring forward the Withdrawal Agreement Bill (WAB) in the week beginning 3 June, after late night talks between Ms May and Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday.
But Labour have expressed doubts about Ms May’s efforts to deliver a compromise agreement, with sources insisting that there was no guarantee they would support the bill. If the deal is voted down MPs will face a stark choice in October when the UK’s article 50 extension runs out – no deal or some are even suggesting no Brexit.
This is the last time the Prime Minister can realistically present her Withdrawal Agreement to Parliament and attempt to get it through the House. The vote will be two weeks after the EU Elections during which the Tories are expected to take a substantial drubbing and in the same week as the Peterborough By-Election and the full state visit of President Donald Trump.
Insiders suggest May will be allowed one last heave to get this deal through Parliament and that it would be a further national embarrassment if there was no Prime Minister in place to meet with President Trump.
Runners and riders are already being declared with figures such as Esther McVey intimiating their interest in standing as leader. Meanwhile Jacob Rees-Mogg has thrown his full weight behind the campaign for Boris Johnson to become the next leader of the Tory party.
