According to reports surfacing in Swiss Newspapers the iconic chocolate bar is now being declared as Halal to conform with a growing Islamic Market.
Owned by the American food company Mondelez, all Toblerone bars are being produced in the Swiss city of Bern and this change was brought in secretly in April according to reports.
A Spokesperson for Mondelez explained to a Swiss Newspaper that since April the sweets comply with the Islamic purity law and ingredients and production now meet halal standards.
According to Voice of Europe: She says the “Toblerone’s original recipe remained unchanged”. She justifies the change with Toblerone’s status as export product: 97 per cent of the bars are exported to other countries.
Specifically the halal certification means that the production process must be inspected and approved by imams as being in line with Islamic standards.
