A toddler is understood to be in a critical condition in hospital following a fall from a block of flats in east London. The Metropolitan Police were called to East India Dock Road in Poplar just after 18:50 on Monday evening to a report that a child had “fallen from a height”.
The toddler understood to be a boy was taken to a specialist hospital in London to be treated. UNN’s Oliver Down believes that at the current time no arrests have been made regarding the incident.
A security guard who works at the tower block has told Sky News that the family involved in the incident are “very nice people” and that the boy’s fall was “just horrible”. In addition to this an unnamed resident at the block said she saw people outside attending to the child before emergency services arrived and added: “They were trying to help but they did not know what to do”.
Other residents living in the tower such as Lydia Best, who has said she was “very scared about the windows” and she only ever opened them “a little bit, even when it is hot” and Ranjit Naik who described the windows as “quite large” and “something I worry about” have spoken of concerns about the building’s windows, which can be opened wide on some settings.
A road closure was put in place at East India Dock Road’s junction with Chrisp Street and Newby Place, but the route has since been re-opened. This could well be a developing story and UNN’s Oliver Down will bring you more as we get it.
