Commonwealth Games are set to allow those born as men to compete in the women’s cycling competition.
Following the approval of new gender rules by authorities, it is thought a ‘trans woman cyclist’ will be allowed to compete this summer in Birmingham 2022.
They can compete on the same terms as they would be allowed by the Union Cycliste Internationale, the world governing body.
Talks over their inclusion have been carried out for over a year as the uproar continues over Lia Thomas, who is a male with male genitalia but identifies as a female, competing in women’s swimming competitions in the USA.
A spokesman said the new policy “will be in keeping with principles established in the IOC framework on Fairness, Inclusion and Non-Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity and Sex Variations.
