Two men arrested on suspicion of terror offences have been released on bail by the Metropolitan police, after being held under the Police and Crime Evidence Act (PACE).
On Tuesday the 25th of February detectives from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, supported by the Specialist Crime Command and the Territorial Support Group arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of a number of offences including terrorism.
The man who has not been named was arrested on suspicion of possessing records of information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism contrary to section 58 Terrorism Act 2000, assault by actual bodily harm on a 23-year-old man contrary to section 47 Offences against the Person Act 1861 and Possession of indecent images of children contrary to section 160 Criminal Justice Act 1988.
The 35-year-old was arrested at an address in north London at around 05:50hrs and taken into custody at a south London police station where he was then held under the Police and Crime Evidence Act (PACE).
Searches of the man’s house have been completed and he has been bailed but ordered to return to a south London police station at a later date.
In a second case detective from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command arrested a 49-year-old man on Tuesday, 25 February, on suspicion of encouragement of terrorism, contrary to Section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
The man was arrested at an address in north London at approximately 06:00hrs, he was also held under the Police and Crime Evidence Act (PACE) at a north London police station.
According to the Metropolitan police, the man has now been bailed-to-return, with conditions, to a north London police station on a later date and Enquiries are ongoing.
Currently, the Met has not given detail into if the arrests are connected, however, what we do know is both men were arrested on the same day ten minutes apart, both at an address in north London.
