Ukraine – the confected crisis

The current ‘crisis’ over the threat to Ukraine from Russian aggression is probably one of the most obvious examples of propaganda I have witnessed in my five decades on this planet. 

I have always been a fan of Russia and its people, mostly because their stoicism and resilience is an example to us all and their utilitarian approach to life highlights some of the waste, decadence and moral decay that contribute to our current issues in the developed west.

Having abandoned terrestrial TV twenty years ago I consume a lot of content from YouTubers documenting Russian life, Russian politics and the soviet era. If you want some suggestions look at Ushanka Show, Survival Russia, Vyatka Hunter, Bald and Bankrupt or Irish Partizan and go from there.

I have watched a lot of commentary from these sources and their ilk about the ‘invasion plan’ and can only conclude that this is simply an exercise in creating a smoke screen in the west to divert attention from the collapsing COVID narrative and the worsening economic situation that the COVID debacle has left in its wake. 

Russia has no need to capture Ukraine, it possesses little in the way of productive resources and during the soviet era was propped up by Moscow, the people are ethnically and culturally very similar and have no entrenched antipathies. No person interviewed on the Russian streets sees any reason for, nor any likelihood of an invasion and regard the histrionics in the western mass media as simply an effort to disguise their own collapsing narratives.

In reality the western media can create any number of demons under the bed, they played a masterstroke with COVID with the collapsing Chinese pedestrians and people being welded inside their apartments. By the time COVID arrived in Europe the paranoia was so well entrenched that the cascading response of fear swept over this nation like a toxic fog, crippling it. 

Putin is well within his rights to move his troops where he likes within his own borders, many of the so called ‘massed forces’ are simply in their regular operation base – which happens to be near the Ukrainian border. How simple it has been to resurrect the old fears of Russian aggression.  Of course when Russia does not invade then the western diplomats can triumphantly parrot that they have somehow ‘won’ because the invasion that wasn’t planned or ever going to happen – didn’t happen.

On the back of this another layer of fear is created, pretexts for sanctions will be hammered out and more efforts will be made to cripple the Russian economy with economics. Ultimately when people are paying triple the price for their heating they will blame Russia when in fact the plan all along was to keep the dying dollar hegemony alive for just a little longer.
