David Clews of UNN sent the following email to the University of Lincoln in light of the arrest of Ike Ekweremadu:
Hello,
I write in relation to the appointment of Ike Ekweremadu:
Foreign media reports that Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Andrew Hunter wrote of the appointment:
“I am delighted to inform you, on the recommendation of the Lincoln International Business School, that the Professorial Committee has agreed to confer on you the title of Visiting Professor of Corporate Governance and International Linkages from May 2022 to May 2025.
A Visiting Professorship is one which is awarded to distinguished individuals of recognised academic and/or professional standing, whose association with a department of the university will support its academic endeavour and provide the highest source of advice and wise counsel in that discipline.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our academic community and thank you for your willingness to be associated with the University of Lincoln.”
Can we ask why you decided to offer this position to Ekweremadu and who’s recommendation it was?
In light of the Met Police investigation has this position now been rescinded?
A University of Lincoln Spokesperson responded to this by saying: “Visiting professors are often, as is in this case, non-resident at the university, unpaid and advisory. We are deeply concerned about the nature of these allegations but as this is an active police investigation, we cannot comment further at this stage. Whilst this matter is subject to investigation, this person will not be undertaking any duties as visiting professor at Lincoln.”
This case poses a number of serious issues especially after we uncovered the picture of Ekweremadu meeting Prince Charles in 2008:
