Today Tommy Robinson was handed a 9 month Jail term. A 6 month sentence for the Leeds Court Case and a 3 month sentence for the Canterbury Court case. He is expected to spend 9.5 weeks in jail in lieu of time already served.
As an unbiased news organisation we totally condemn this sentence that has been brought about via political pressure but this does not mean wider issues are not at play.
We feel that Mr Robinson continues to receive extremely bad advice and also do not agree with the way in which he went about his coverage at both the Canterbury and Leeds cases. It is our assessment that he most likely did break contempt of court laws even though it did not have a detrimental effect on justice being served to the perpetrators in this case. The law is meant to be fair and equal but as we see on a daily basis this is certainly not the case.
We acknowledge that Tommy Robinson is a highly divisive figure but does not on the whole receive fair media coverage. Mr Robinson claims to despise the media for having activists as journalists when of course he moves between the two easily. He also has a tendency to create a great deal of drama as a provocateur and has a poor choice of what battles to fight.
However, what is apparent is that if the British Establishment does decide to come after you they will find something to pin on you. Mr Robinson is being jailed despite many journalists having been convicted of this offence and only receiving a slap on the wrist.
Mr Robinson also for years spoke out fervently against the cancer of grooming gangs and he and his supporters are entirely correct in saying that the mainstream media did not pay this sufficient attention.
The way in which certain senior politicians and social media figures are reacting with glee to his sentence shows just how divided and nasty this country has become. Mr Robinson is a Father and is now going to be away from his children which is unacceptable.
When his initial sentence was quashed that should have been the end of the matter. It is blatantly obvious that the Attorney General, Geoffrey Cox, as well as the wider judiciary and establishment wanted to make an example of Mr Robinson and they certainly have done so. We trust that the Prison Authorities will ensure that due care is put in place to protect him as should be offered to all prisoners.
Figures like Tommy Robinson, Julian Assange, George Galloway along with many on the left/right spectrum are increasingly seeing their opinions squashed into a bland metropolitan elite centrist bubble and being jailed. In the UK we are constantly told to celebrate the diversity of the nation but when it comes to diversity of opinion the intolerance has never been greater.
There is a conference taking place on Press Freedom today in the UK and the irony of this has never been greater. The UK is an absolute leaderless mess and shambles with most people utterly disengaged from the political and social process.
The imprisonment of Tommy Robinson is an outdated and dying establishment attempting to flex its muscles, in no way does the punishment fit the crime and all decent minded people surely agree.
