As Donald Trump crashes like a bull in a china shop through the Woke and Green edifices of progressive governance, here in the UK we are heading in the wrong direction. Ed Miliband, architect of the Climate Change Act 2008, is back and pushing Net Zero as fast as he can. But this is not enough for the climate cult. Driven by their apocalyptic fears for the planet, and perhaps the promise of some great reward, backbench MPs have presented the Climate & Nature Bill, for debate in parliament tomorrow.
Although few private members’ bills become law, this has a higher likelihood of success. About two hundred MPs are backing it, and opposition to this green-leftist move is weakened in a chamber dominated by Labour and like-thinking parties.
If passed by the House of Commons, the consequences will be severe for ordinary British citizens, already struggling with the cost of living, punitive taxes and the pressures caused by uncontrolled immigration. Food shortages will be threatened by the Net Zero attack on farmers. Motorists will face local charging schemes that target older vehicles, just as many poor Londoners were forced off the road by Sadiq Khan’s ULEZ. And millions of jobs are at risk from the decarbonising wrecking ball.
So it is particularly galling that seventeen trade unions are urging Keir Starmer to support a bill that will inevitably destroy jobs (thereby reducing union membership). The union leaders who put their names to this missive include Daniel Kebede (general secretary, National Education Union), Jo Grady (University & College Union), Fran Heathcote (Public & Commercial Services Union), Steve Gillan (Prison Officers Association), Zito Holbourne (Artists Union of England) and Phil Banfield (council chairman, British Medical Association). They warned: –
‘The climate-nature crisis is already impacting workers’ lives and livelihoods across the UK’
Let’s revise that. It’s Net Zero that is afflicting workers’ jobs and welfare. Port Talbot steel works and Grangemouth oil refinery, major employers in relatively poor areas, have been closed despite the country’s obvious need for steel and oil. Farms are going out of business when a growing population needs more food. Yet the priority is to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide, blamed for rising temperatures and the ludicrous notion of ‘global boiling’. Backbench puritans want the government to impose ‘the strongest laws to rise to this existential threat’.
As I explain in my book Green in Tooth and Claw: the Misanthropic Mission of Climate Alarm, there is no scientific justification for Net Zero. The climate emergency is a scam. Its purpose is to create a totalitarian global technocracy, in which a predatory elite will lord over the masses, who will be reduced to a state of neofeudalism. All but a privileged few will be subjected to impoverishment, enslavement and depopulation. Workers must heed this warning: you are the carbon that they want to reduce.
The Climate & Nature Bill will be stealing from the poor to give to the rich. Yet trade unions give their wholehearted support. How bad do these unions need to be before members realise that they are like turkeys voting for Christmas? My advice is to cancel your subscription to any large trade union, and transfer to the independent Workers of England Union. Not only do you stop paying for subversive propaganda, but you will get proper representation idf you fall foul of the Woke and Green cancel culture. The large unions, as their support for the Climate & Nature Bill shows, are not on your side.
