Some of alternative media has rightly been highlighting some of the problems with the government’s policies on Ukraine/Russia.
This is so important as most of the mainstream media has chosen to avoid the sort of analysis we would expect on any issue.
The government’s policies in these areas started in earnest the day after Russia’s “Special Military Operation,” on February 24th 2022.
The fact that the government had been involved in Ukraine political and military matters before then is the subject for another occasion.
What is important is that it was at this time that the British public started to be seriously affected by their government’s Ukraine/Russia policies.
What happened, as we know, is that the then UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, brought in sanctions against Russia.
He also vastly increased the military and other aid given to the Zelensky government.
So far this has totalled £12.8 billion plus £3bn a year ongoing aid, plus £1bn for 300,000 Ukrainian refugees in the UK.
The grand total is probably much more than this, but these are the admitted government figures.
These policies have been endorsed by four Prime Ministers, the latest being Sir Keir Starmer in a most reckless manner.
The consequences of these policies have been immense:
The costs of living and of energy have skyrocketed over the past three years, mostly caused by sanctions against Russia, and some by net zero policies.
The overall effect of these policies has had a negative influence on the UK economy.
Money which should have been allocated to UK needs, has instead gone to Ukraine.
There have been tax rises and cuts in government services.
Now even disability and other welfare benefits are being cut.
The government’s economic difficulties have been brought about by the huge over-expenditure the government made on covid- up to about £500 billion.
This has resulted in high interest charges on government borrowing.
There has also been costs caused by Net Zero policies and the huge costs of Immigration.
However, it is the Ukraine/Russia policies which have brought about massively worsened damage.
The supporters of the establishment point of view on Ukraine/Russia may well feel all the pain inflicted on the UK is worth it.
However, even they must accept there has been a dearth of debate on the pros and cons of government policy.
This issue has certainly contributed to people having less faith in the government’s overall performance.
The government is now seeking mission creep in Ukraine by trying guile to put British troops there.
They must not get away their attempts as this would put British forces in harm’s way and risk a third world war.
Some people ask; “What can we do about this government, how can we bring this nightmare to an end?”
One valiant effort is the proposed Great British National Strike, which is intended to be a major protest against the government on May 24th.
This can only add weight to the momentum.
Another factor which could help is this: Reform UK have committed to bringing about a national referendum on the UK’s Net Zero goal.
Now is the time for all of us to demand another referendum, on the government’s disastrous Ukraine/Russia policies.
With plenty of people demanding their voice is heard, this puts pressure on the government, who never had a mandate for these important policies.
It is so vital that people sign and share this petition as their sign of protest:
https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/714303
People power can achieve a lot if people use it.
This was shown when so many government Ministers were kicked out at the last election.
It is up to us to use it.
Signing a petition is the most time and cost effective means of protest.
It only takes 30 seconds !
