The woman who murdered seven-year-old Bolton schoolgirl Emily Jones has appealed against her life sentence.
Eltiona Skana was handed life with a minimum term of ten years and eight months in prison, and a hospital order after pleading guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
A court heard that the 31-year-old – who suffers from severe paranoid schizophrenia – had grabbed Emily and slashed her throat while the youngster rode her scooter through Queens Park, Bolton, on Mothers Day, March 22, 2020.
Handing down Skana’s sentence, Judge Mr Justice Wall told her she would be detained in a secure hospital until ‘no longer necessary’ and that if she was ever released from hospital she would go straight to prison to serve her term.
Skana’s legal representatives have filed an appeal against the sentence.
The Court of Appeal has confirmed that her case was heard by a single judge on Friday, August 6.
