A caller to Nick Ferrari’s LBC show said his teenage son was given a detention at school after telling a teacher he’d vote for Ukip.
According to LBC:
Paul in Loughton said three boys including his 15-year-old were issued the punishment following a classroom debate during the 2016 general election.
“One boy said he’d vote for Ukip and the teacher said that ‘all Ukip voters are racist’ so my boy came in and said ‘I’d vote for Ukip and I’m not racist’,” Paul told Nick on Friday.
“He was given a detention, the three boys that said it, and when he come home and told me I didn’t believe him.”
When Paul phoned the school the Head of Year issued a full apology and the punishment was scrapped.
Nick Ferrari described the incident as “outrageous” and “absurd”.
This comes as a teenage girl says that a college gave her a “final warning for being too right wing” after she declared her support for Tommy Robinson.
Alissa Cook-Gray, 17, told her classmates that she admires Mr. Robinson the political activist. They had been having a political debate on the first day of their art and employability course when she told of her support.
Alissa said her classmates were expressing their support for Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn when she told them she identifies more with Tommy Robinson.
She claims a teacher told her: “Get out, we don’t want people with your views.” Alissa told how she decided to quit her course at Total People in Crewe, Cheshire, after just over an hour of lessons due to the ordeal.
Alissa said:
I was given a final warning for being too right wing. It was the first day and we were all having a conversation when Jeremy Corbyn came up, I asked people not to get into it because I was filled with a room of lefties. I said my opinion and the teacher said ‘get out, we don’t want people with your views’.
I was given a final warning for being too right wing. “The class then started asking everyone who their favourite person was and I said Tommy Robinson. I like what he is doing for our country and I follow all of his stories – I think he is a saviour.
The tutor said she would have a word with the others but when I went in I felt quite uncomfortable because of what happened. Everyone should be allowed to have their own opinion but I felt mine was just shot down. I’m terrified and I don’t want to go back.”
Alissa’s dad Gareth Cook says the training centre should not discriminate people whether it is about race, religion, or their political views.
The 38-year-old said: “I’m absolutely fuming at what happened and they should not have turned around and spoke to her like that. She had to sit there and put up with opinions she doesn’t agree with and they only reacted like this because it’s Tommy Robinson. I’m a big fan and think the guy is a legend but this is how people react when they hear his name.”
