At least three Leicester roads have been cordoned off as a large scale police operation is being carried out involving Armed Police and dog teams. Since the early hours Belvoir Street has been shut to traffic and pedestrians with a cordon in place between Stamford Street and Bowling Green Street.
This is connected to an incident which apparently saw an armed police officer injured after being ‘deliberately driven at’.
A massive police operation is underway – and since Loughborough Road has been shut to traffic.
Area Traffic Control say traffic is being redirected along Checketts Road.
Armed police have sealed off Bradbourne Road in Leicester as part of an ongoing large-scale police operation.
Leicestershire Live has been told by a witness that two young men were removed from a Spinney Hills property by police at gunpoint earlier this morning.
Several police vehicles and around a dozen armed and masked officers – at least one in plain clothes – are currently outside a property near its Shipley Road junction. At least two officers with police dogs are also in the street.
Bradbourne Road has been the focus of police activity since the early hours after an assault in the early hours of the morning in the city centre.Armed officers were deployed to Belvoir Street at around 3.30am.
A Police Statement issued said:
Police were called just after 3.30am this morning (5 October) following a report of a man assaulted in Belvoir Street, Leicester.Following information received during the call, armed officers were deployed to the scene.
The assaulted man, who is in his twenties, did not attend hospital for treatment. In response to this assault, two men aged 19 and two men aged 20, all from Leicester, have been arrested in connection with this incident and are currently in police custody.
Shortly after, an officer carrying out enquiries in response to the initial report was injured in the area of Bradbourne Road. Early enquiries suggest the officer was deliberately driven at by a car which then left the scene in Bradbourne Road.
The officer suffered serious injuries and is currently in hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The investigation is at an early stage and police are currently linking the two incidents.
A section of Belvoir Street remains closed off this morning while enquiries remain ongoing.
Opinion: Unity News Network is sickened by what appears to be a clear and deliberate attack against the U.K.’s Police force, we would like to send our best wishes to the officer who was attacked and wish him a speedy recovery, we would also like to send his family our best wishes in what must be an incredibly hard time for them. This is not only an attack on U.K. Law enforcement but the United Kingdom itself.
