As you must know by now, Truth Reporter doesn’t do ‘news’. This is because UNN already does a lot of quality news and I stick to what I do best, which you could loosely term ‘trend analysis’. I feel a duty to try and help those that wish to be helped, to impart what I have learned and found to be useful and to warn against pitfalls or dead ends that I have encountered so you don’t waste time, money and psychological collateral on things that don’t work or will harm you.
I hope that during my contributions to UNN I’ve evidenced and provided sources so people can see how I arrive at the conclusions I do. Sometimes the source material is so incredibly succinct and elegant in its own right, instead of providing a précis it needs only to be highlighted so people can access it first-hand without an interlocutor.
If you’re under 40 years of age you’ve probably not heard of Carl Sagan, but he remains one of the key inspirational figures that drives me to try and communicate truth and reason. Known principally as an astronomer and cosmologist he made the epochal series ‘Cosmos’ in 1980 which I still remember watching with awe as a boy. Sagan’s Wikipedia entry is comprehensive and I will not duplicate large sections of it here – it is well worth looking up.
Sagan’s true genius lay in his ability to communicate and to explain, to put complex processes into perspective using ingenious allegorical examples and to draw his audience from first principles and build his argument step by step so each element was supported by the last.
You can find ‘Cosmos’ on YouTube, ignore the slightly aged look of the programme, it is after all 40 years old. But compare Sagan’s delivery with the ravings we receive from the so-called ‘experts’ we get on mainstream TV today.
Modern ‘science’ programming seems all too often to want to enshrine mystery instead of dispelling it and leaves the viewer no wiser than before, while simultaneously worshipping these celebrity scientists like gods who can never be challenged. Worse still there is a great deal of linguistic programming inserted into recent broadcasts which a cynical person might well link to the agenda driven nexus of science and politics we are currently exposed to.
If there is one body of work that can push back against the slanted agenda we face it is Sagan’s. His book ‘The Demon Haunted World’ was his last before his untimely death and is a stunning piece of work from a man whose intellect was vast. If you’re concerned that the world is an increasingly difficult place to understand and you can’t decide what information is valid then the methods and the ideas in this work will literally set you free.
Neither I nor UNN make a penny from this recommendation but if there’s one book you buy or get from the library, make it this one. I will leave you with just two quotes from this work to give you an idea of how insightful and relevant this brilliant man’s work was.
