Coins celebrating the upcoming Independence of the UK ill enter circulation this Friday as some leading Remainers have vowed never to use them.
The Treasury will introduce around 3million of the 50p pieces to mark the UK’s departure from the EU after 1million inscribed with the previous Brexit date had to be scrapped. Bearing the words ‘peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations’, they led to a backlash among pro-EU campaigners.
Lord Adonis, the failed candidate at the EU elections said: “I am never using or accepting this coin.” He has since been trolled mercilessly for this.

Former spin doctor, Alastair Campbell who famously was involved in the dodgy dossier that led to hundreds of British soldiers dying and over a million Iraqis, tweeted: ‘I for one shall be asking shopkeepers for “two 20p pieces and a 10” if they offer me a 50p coin pretending that Brexit is about “peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations” given it puts all three at risk.’

Some social media users suggested collecting the coins to take them out of circulation, defacing them or giving them to charity. Another 7million will be released later this year.
Chancellor Sajid Javid said: ‘Leaving the EU is a turning point in our history and this coin marks the beginning of this new chapter.’
