Eliminated Conservative party candidate Dominic Raab has today been insistent that one option available to Boris Johnson should he become Prime Minister could be to ignore attempts by MPs in the House of Commons to block Britain leaving the EU without having voted through a withdrawal agreement, his allies said today as a new poll suggested Britain wants to leave the EU more than ever. Mr Raab stated that a vote by Remain MPs attempting to take No Deal off the table would have ‘zero legal effect’.

Many Boris Johnson supporters have noted a change in tactic and tone from Mr Johnson over the last 48 hours. Mr Johnson participated in several interviews on Tuesday with broadcasters such as LBC and TalkRadio. In the interview with TalkRadio Mr Johnson stated that Britain would leave the EU on the 31st of October ‘do or die’.

Mr Johnson’s and Mr Raab’s comments are in stark contrast to Dr Liam Fox’s comments. Dr Fox described Boris Johnson’s Brexit plan as ‘ludicrously tilting at windmills’.

A further caveat to Boris Johnson’s ability to take Britain out of the EU on the 31st of October is his insistence he can use GAAT 24.

GATT 24 is an element of World Trade Organization law that allows tariff-free trade for up to 10 years while a permanent trade agreement is negotiated. However, this only applies to goods. Mark Carney, the governor of the Bank of England is insistent this is not possible.

However, Boris Johnson is also insistent that this is false, Mr Johnson stated on LBC yesterday “Well, he’s right in the sense that GATT article 24 paragraph 5b makes it perfectly clear that two countries that are in the process of beginning a free trade agreement may protract their existing arrangements until such time as they’ve completed the new free trade agreement”.

Robert Peston has this afternoon described Boris Johnson’s Brexit policy provided over the past 48 hours as “plans A, B and C”.

To many of Boris Johnson’s supporters, this will be music to their ears.
