Matteo Salvini is the new Prime Minister of Italy and his approval ratings have soared after he has taken a far tougher line on illegal immigration. His party ‘The League’ has introduced legislation that would ban ritual halal slaughter saying that animals should be respected and protected from suffering.
The new laws will stop loopholes currently in place in the country’s animal welfare legislation that allows Muslims exemptions for ritual halal slaughter according to reports in the Italian press.
Should the new laws, which will also force producers to properly label all halal and ritually slaughtered products, pass and come into effect it would see Italy join a host of other European countries such as Poland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Lithuania, Belgium, and Switzerland which have also either restricted or banned religious slaughter.
In Belgium, the practice is banned in both Wallonia and in Flanders but the region of Brussels has not passed laws restricting halal or kosher slaughter and sees such slaughters taking place over the Islamic holiday Eid al-Adha.
France is one European Union member state in which halal slaughter is legal as long as it is done under the supervision of a qualified professional. Despite it being legal, French police have still found underground slaughterhouses used for Eid al-Adha.
In France the Police went in en masse to the heavily migrant populated Paris suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis where they rescued 32 sheep from the garage of a pizza restaurant and other investigators made similar discoveries across the area, even arresting one man for illegally shooting two sheep to death.
Meanwhile in the UK the Muslim community have recently celebrated the festival of Eid and at the end it is customary to slaughter an animal in the traditional style that is to slit its throat and leave it to bleed to death.

As you can see below in the image that has been shared thousands of times it is an extremely barbaric and distressing image witnessed in a residential area of Britain.
This comes as the RSPCA has slammed the use of unstunned Halal meat in the UK and the fact the UK Government has given the go ahead for a £25 million sale of meat to Saudi Arabia. Marc Cooper of the RSPCA has said:
This deal with Saudi Arabia is very disappointing news. Non-stun slaughter causes serious suffering for animals.
The Government has committed to maintaining and improving animal welfare under the current Brexit discussions.
To minimise unnecessary animal suffering, we believe it should follow other European nations and ban the export of meat from non-stunned animals.”
Unity News Opinion- We totally condemn the barbaric practice of unstunned slaughter. It has no place in our society and should be banned immediately. This should apply to all forms of religious slaughter and be done immediately. Likewise any Halal or Kosher meat should be labelled accordingly in supermarkets, shops and restaurants to let the public decide if they wish to purchase it or not. The fact it is now happening in BACK GARDENS shows how far as a country we have fallen.
