Today Britain’s first Pride train made its first journey. The train was decorated in the colours of the rainbow and was fully staffed by a predominantly LGBT crew. The train was 11 carriages long and travelled from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly.
In addition to this, the train also black and brown paintwork which is in support of the symbolise black, Asian and minority ethnic communities. Members of the train’s staff have told the Daily Mail that the paint job and the selection of staff is a ‘sign of the steps we’re taking towards a more inclusive, diverse and equal society’.
The manager of the train was Paul Austin and he has said : ‘This is about being accepted for who I am and representing the LGBT+ community we serve across our network’. The train has been called ‘The Avanti West Coast Pride Train’ and has posters and literature on board for passengers and Pride-related information will be conveyed during onboard announcements.
Sarah Copley s Avanti West Coast executive director and has said: ‘I’m delighted to be launching our new Avanti West Coast Pride Train, which represents everyone in the LGBTQ+ community. It is a symbol of our commitment to diversity and inclusion as it travels up and down the West Coast Main Line. We live proud 365 days a year, not just today’.
