A war of words has erupted on social media with David Lammy having been reported to The Metropolitan Police with accusations that he has incited violence:
Mr Lammy has now responded to this by referring to Mr Jack as a muppet and likening himself to Gandhi and Martin Luther King:
Social media is split down the middle with critics of Mr Lammy saying he should be tried while others say he has a right to engage in civil disobedience:
witter users flooded to the comments section to give air their opinions, one user named Bill Rollinson said: “But he’s doing it to deliver the peoples wishes of a democratically voted referendum result. Currently being stopped by crooked MPs’.”
Other users including one named Mrs B urged Mr Lammy to consider what he was saying he is willing to do, they wrote: “So you are planning to overturn a democratic decision by civil disobedience. There lies a very dangerous path, you need to think very carefully about what you are saying.”
Other Social media users questioned If Mr Lammy was fit to be an MP at all, a user by the name of LM wrote: “In announcing your participation in Civil Disobedience you have just illustrated why you are not fit to be an MP.
“You bring nothing positive to the table just divisive rhetoric and negative attitude. Mr Lammy, you are a part of the problem we see in society today.”
However, some people agreed with Mr Lammy, Philippa Shallcrass wrote: “This is outrageous I don’t understand why people aren’t extremely angry. It is taking away all our liberties Johnson is creating a dictatorship and we are walking straight into it. Forget democracy, forget sovereignty, forget liberty, forget freedom.”
Rohan, another user who agreed with Mr Lammy slammed everyone who voted for Brexit, they said: “Brexiters wanted parliamentary sovereignty all along until they now think they want to bypass parliament. Brexiters seem to want an autocrat, but these same people would be outraged if a labour leader attempted the same move.”
Despite all political rhetoric used on Twitter by Mr Lammy some question if he would stick to his word and take part in civil disobedience, Simon Cook wrote: “Lammy knows full well he won’t take ANY part in civil disobedience he is a man of words not action, lacking in moral fibre & ideas, remember when he was going to chain himself to gates of Downing Street to protest the visit of the President of the United States, no surprise that he DIDN’T go through with it.”
