UNN has been made aware of polling conducted by YouGov regarding the removal of the Edward Colston statue in Bristol that has turned up some startling findings. UNN’s Oliver Down has been analysing the data and crunching the findings and responses from the 4,300 people surveyed.
The headline from the poll is that, of those surveyed, only 13% approve of the removal of the statue and the way it was done. This result could have surprised some. In addition to this 33% opposed the removal of the statue in any capacity. The Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage was this morning invited onto ‘Good Morning Britain’ to discuss the events in Bristol. In response to the YouGov findings Mr Farage said on Twitter : “Only 13% of the country approve of the way the Colston statue was removed. So how is it that @GMB can organise a debate with 4 against 1 thinking it was the right thing and supporting mob rule? Media are out of touch”.
The other findings in the poll were that 33% of those asked ‘Disapprove of the statue being removed’ ; 40% ‘Approve of the statue being removed , but not in the way in which it was done’ and 14% did not know.
