EU branded “DISGUSTING” as it awards its new chief EYE-WATERING annual salary

Following Ms von der Leyen, the former German defence minister being confirmed as the replacement for outgoing President of the European Union Jean-Claude Juncker many have been concentrating on her views and likely policies. However, figures have emerged that show that Ursula von der Leyen will earn more than £300,000 year. All EU salaries are decided by the European Council which is the collective body which defines the EU’s political course. This Council, consists of the president which was Mr Junker, European Council President Donald Tusk, plus the leaders of the nations in the EU. The uproar has occurred in Britain partly because of the British Prime minister being excluded from these talks due to the impending Brexit.

Many in the UK have spoken with evident anger at these figures. One of these was a spokesperson from the Taxpayers’ Alliance, they stated that “Taxpayers up and down the country will be disgusted at this extortionate salary, especially as they weren’t expecting to be paying for it anymore. Hard-pressed families want their money spent on the public services that make a difference in their lives, like the NHS, not handed over to Brussels so that bureaucrats can live in luxury.” The salary works out at €27,903 a month and €334,836 a year, equivalent to £301,161.

von der Leyen
Ms von der Leyen’s salary is nearly double that of the British Prime Minister who earns just over £170,000 per year as well as slightly less than the President of the USA who earns £320,000 per year. Ms von der Leyen only just won the election in the European Parliament as she only scraped home with 383 votes – just nine more than the minimum that was needed. Ms Von der Leyen is a mother of seven, as well as an advocate of a European Army and an opponent of Brexit as seen with her comments that she would give Britain another extension and Nigel Farage describing her as a “gift” for Brexit.
It is well known that Ms von der Leyen is a close ally of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Former German MEP Hans-Olaf Henkel was far from complimentary of her abilities as German defence minister he stated that “One needs only to study the reactions of the officers of the German Army, the Bundeswehr, to get an objective picture of her qualification: a big sigh of relief! Von der Leyen is responsible for the biggest disarmament of a German army after its defeat in two World Wars. Today, the morale of German troops is at an all-time low.”
