Sham marriage in the United Kingdom is a form of immigration fraud in the UK, undertaken to gain legal immigrant status. The fraud is investigated mostly by the UK Border Force and previously by the UK Border Agency. It is estimated that around 4-10,000 sham marriages take place in the UK every year.
There is another form of far more sinister fake marriage taking place and that is marriage fraud with next to no attention paid to this.
