Four men arrested after ‘shameful’ anti-Semitism video is posted on social media

Police have arrested four men after a video that appeared to show anti-Semitic abuse being shouted from a car in north London.

On Sunday, a video was posted on social media appearing to show a convoy of cars with Palestinian flags driving down a street, with a man shouting anti-Semitic abuse from a megaphone.

Onlookers could be heard gasping with fear as one man shouted “F**k the Jews, rape their daughters”.

A poster being circulated on social media indicated that more intimidation was being planned at 6.30pm at a “north London” location.

Some of the passengers shouted: “Free Palestine”, followed immediately by the abuse.

The person who filmed the video told the BBC journalists they cried after witnessing the scene, adding: “I don’t feel safe.”

The comments come amid rising tension between Israel and Palestinians in the Middle East, culminating in the worst violence since 2014.

Yesterday Prime Minister Boris Johnson condemned the “shameful racism” aimed at British Jews, which had “no place” in society.

In response to the convoy, the Prime Minister tweeted: “There is no place for antisemitism in our society. Ahead of Shavuot, I stand with Britain’s Jews who should not have to endure the type of shameful racism we have seen today.”

Home Secretary Priti Patel said: “This is disgusting antisemitism. There is no place for this hatred in the UK. I expect @metpoliceuk to be taking this seriously.”

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “We are aware of a video appearing to show antisemitic language being shouted from a convoy of cars in the St John’s Wood area this afternoon. Officers are carrying out urgent enquiries to identify those responsible. This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated”.
