Is British Democracy Broken? “Give them bread and circuses and they will never revolt”

This is an opinion piece by UNN’s Editor-in-Chief Carl D. Pearson for UNN’s premium content section.

Keeping the people entertained and lowering IQ levels:

I often make the comment many people seem more interested in who to vote for on X-Factor rather than in our Political election, one could say the old phrase “give them bread and circuses and they will never revolt” has a 21-century equivalent: “give them take-aways and mind-numbing TV and they will never revolt”.

Various studies have found IQ levels have been falling for decades in the West, “The causes in IQ increases over time and now the decline is due to environmental factors,” said Ole Rogeberg, a senior research fellow at the Ragnar Frisch Center for Economic Research in Norway and co-author of one of these studies, he believes the change is not due to genetics but “environmental factors” could these factors include of reality TV world and propaganda-driven mainstream media?

I pose the question to you, could lower IQ levels be directly impacting the calibre of our political landscape and has it assisted in dumbing down the very institutions that are supposed to service the people?

Do we have the appetite for a political change?

Looking at those that adorned the chambers of power is hardly like looking into a room of our brightest and best, we have almost learned to expect our political leaders will not be of a high grade.

Our system has allowed for corruption to flourish with a new wave of political correctness and globalism having descended on our land to attempt to replace any sense of British identity or culture.

People from all sides of the political spectrum feel let down by a system that appears from the outside to pick and choose when to apply the law, leading to many feeling failed by our law enforcement agencies and judicial system and cries that a two-tier policing system has taken grip in the UK.

What is rather worrying is many seem unfazed by the last year and five months of what can only be described as draconian rule, even Members of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviour have expressed regret about ‘unethical’ methods used to control behaviour in Covid crisis and admitted they should be considered ‘totalitarian’.

Gavin Morgan, a psychologist on the team, said: “Clearly, using fear as a means of control is not ethical. Using fear smacks of totalitarianism. It’s not an ethical stance for any modern government. By nature, I am an optimistic person, but all this has given me a more pessimistic view of people.”

One member of the group warned that “people use the pandemic to grab power and drive through things that wouldn’t happen otherwise… We have to be very careful about the authoritarianism that is creeping in”.

Will these admissions be enough to wake up anyone who is still disillusioned about the situation, only the British people as a collective can deliver the answer in good time.

 Is British democracy working?

When democracy is spoken about in the West its almost has this sacred cow like status whereby any notion of criticising democracy can see you relinquished to the naughty step.

However, in other parts of the world, they have a much different view of democracy and do not see it as this perfect system incapable of producing rotten governments, in fact, quite the opposite in some cases.

I would argue that democracy in its current form in the United Kingdom is fractured, it’s not producing governments that put the British people first and therefore in my view failing to do its fundamental job.

Reform will be needed in the coming decades or British democracy could see itself coming under serious political assault from other systems that could potentially offer the British public a new alternative.
