Tina Brooker has written the following response letter to Robert Jenrick, Minister of State for Immigration regarding the Home Office accommodating “asylum seekers” within local hotels.
“Thank you for your letter dated 7 February 2023, the content of which, threw up more questions than answers.
The overall feeling emanating from your communication, [despite an admission that the current situation is “unfair and manifestly wrong that taxpayers are paying to accommodate asylum seekers in expensive hotels”], is that this is a fait accompli due to “statutory obligations” under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999. The only solution put forward by yourself was to find alternative accommodation, which is clearly, no solution at all.
Are we honestly to believe that in a supposedly “sovereign democratic post-Brexit nation”, that the Home Secretary and Minister of State for Immigration have “no teeth” to protect our island’s borders/effectively control immigration?
Surely the simple solution would be to withdraw from the legislation that is binding your hands from dealing with this urgent issue? Do you agree? [Please answer].
You state within your letter that all local authority areas in England, Scotland and Wales became an asylum dispersal area by default in April 2022. Was legislation passed and were local people consulted?. [Please answer].
I am sure that you are aware of the “tinder box situation” uncontrolled immigration poses, especially mass illegal entry upon our shores. This is heightened by a vicious cost of living crisis, with an ever increasing number of working people forced to attend food banks/“warm hubs” merely to survive.
The unfairness that you refer to is clearly a slap in the face to hard working law abiding citizens. I remember David Cameron once saying “we will reward those who do the right thing” – I have yet to see that transpire, in fact quite the opposite has manifested itself.
I must raise one very dangerous/divisive situation being created, by a growing number of Parliamentarians, alongside an irresponsible corporate media. This collaboration seem hell bent on creating a false narrative branding concerned citizens as “far right”.
They are calling for censorship and deploy organisations such as “hate not hope” to place targets on people’s backs and divide society. This blatant intimidation tactic is not only incendiary, it is wholly irresponsible.
Is this really the path that you and the Home Secretary wish to take the UK down?……
