A homeless ‘Asylum Seeker’ has been found guilty of raping a teenager last summer.
Muhammed Umar aged 23 of no fixed address, approached the 15-year-old as she walked down Narborough Road at around 11.30pm on August 24.
He threatened the young girl, leading her to believe he had a weapon, before luring her to an alleyway. Umar then took her to a mattress where he had been sleeping and subjected her to a horrific attack.
The following day when the Police were undertaking enquiries on Narborough Road, they discovered Umar in the street.They recognised him from CCTV captured at the time of the offence and he was arrested. Later that day, the victim identified Umar as part of an identity parade and a further DNA match also came back.
A Police Spokesperson said:
This was an attack on a vulnerable young girl, with threats made to her safety leaving her with little option but to do what Umar wanted. He subjected her to a prolonged attack, using his power over her, to sexually assault her.
She had remained very strong throughout this investigation, and her strength has been key in bringing this offender to court.
