Coming from the Bennite wing of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn is an avowed socialist and in turn a euro-sceptic. In speeches over the years he has always railed against the unelected commissioners of the EU and the damage that it has caused to working class people in Europe.
However it now appears that he has given up his principles in favour of accommodating the Blairite wing of the Labour Party and according to The Telegraph he now backs MP’s plans to force a second referendum on the people.
The highly respected Telegraph broadsheet wrote:
Jeremy Corbyn has endorsed a plan to force a second EU referendum as he bowed to pressure from Labour party members and MPs.
Mr Corbyn wants the Government to give MPs the final say next week on a second referendum. If a majority back a referendum, Parliament could force Theresa May to hold a new in/out public vote that could lead to Brexit being reversed.
Supporters of the so-called “People’s Vote” were jubilant tonight, describing Labour’s new policy as a “momentous” move that brought a referendum a “massive” step closer.
Many commentators have said this is seen as a massive betrayal of the working class communities that overwhelmingly voted leave and that it now looks even more likely there will be a second EU referendum.
