Man charged with 6 attempted kidnappings in Rotherham, appears in court

A 30-year-old man has been arrested and appeared in court charged with six attempted kidnappings in Rotherham.

Shamaz Ali appeared in Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Saturday after he was charged with six counts of attempted kidnap, assault with intent to resist lawful apprehension, criminal damage and driving over the alcohol limit.

At around 8.50am on September 24, police started to receive several calls from the public about a man in a car stopping and speaking to people and children in the Herringthorpe area.

In court, he pleaded not guilty to drink driving and the assault but guilty to the criminal damage charge.

No pleas were entered for the attempted kidnapping charges.

The accused was remanded into custody and will appear before Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, October 23.
