A violent machete attack has occurred at a McDonalds store, with the attacker posting a Snapchat selfie covered in the victims blood after savaging a man’s hand. The attacker, Jordan Hughes grinned in the image and claimed he had been “stabbed in the head lol”. It turned out however that he was actually covered in his victim’s blood.
The attack occurred on the 7th of March this year after the 22-year-old left his home in the early hours of the morning with a 40cm weapon hidden in his trousers. Mr Hughes entered into a McDonald’s in Warrington. This is when Mr Hughes met his victim who was a 20-year-old called Samuel Liggett who was present at the fast-food restaurant with a group of friends.
When the victim and friends left the McDonalds Mr Hughes then followed them and began shouting at them from across the road. Following this Mr Hughes then ran at them, pulled out the machete, and began slashing at Mr Liggett. Once the group began running away Mr Liggett began to feel a “strange, warm trickle feeling, down his arm”. Katy Appleton who was present in court for the prosecution said : “This story was a picture of him, with blood splattered to his face, and he had quoted underneath it ‘just got stabbed in the head LOL’”.
Mr Hughes initially denied wounding with intent and possessing a bladed article in public, only to later plead guilty. He was jailed for 12 years, with an extended three years on licence. A medical report read out to the court stated that Mr Liggett needed a “near total amputation of his left hand” and still has a minimal range of movement in his wrist.
